Cyclone Thane Relief & Redevelopment

In the aftermath of Cyclone Thane in late December 2011, two CLP partner villages were most affected and one was left without any assistance. On the first day after Cyclone Thane, it was CLP and MUGHIL Social Welfare Organization leaders who mobilized food and prepared a hot meal for over 110 families in the village as well as 55 food packets for a neighboring community. Young leaders made the difference in times of natural disaster and dire social injustice.

A short-term vision for the Cyclone Thane Relief Fund includes a village community where people are well-fed with access to clean water and safe space to assess damage and collectively plan and work towards the redevelopment of their community. A long-term vision for this initiative is that community members of any socio-economic standing will live in non-leaking houses that remain safe and secure spaces during times of natural disaster.
